Job Title: Senior Search Specialist
Duties: Primary Purpose and Goal
Responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of enterprise search capabilities. Advises the business on innovative search solutions and related data & analytics, content and application architecture topics. Works as a senior specialist within global IT organization and within global governance structures to define technology standards that meet business expectations and needs as identified in partnership with global collaboration and knowledge function (GC&K).
Responsibilities and Tasks
Act as trusted advisor to global collaboration & knowledge function on search and related topics Be a Senior Specialist on search:
Partner with GC&K to define search standards Maintain current knowledge of content architecture and related technologies ensuring staying relevant with latest changes and technologies in this field Attend / participate in industry conferences and events and educate business and IT teams as appropriate
Work with business and ITS teams to understand strategy, challenges, objectives, landscape priorities and requirements Analyze search performance including key word and usage patterns, accuracy of results, user satisfaction, click patterns and streams Partner with C&K to develop approaches to optimize search performance streamline usage patterns, define tuning approaching (e.g. dictionaries, synonyms, content tagging/metadata, context/clues), leverage facets and new analytics approaches Create data and application models, architecture documentation and other project deliverables related to defining and implementing search solutions Develop/manage the creation of POCs in order to gain insights, test and prove approaches and evaluate 3rd party products Assist in managing and 3rd party resources as required to ensure the successful design and delivery of search solutions Design new search solutions and manage their implementation, monitor performance and assist in tuning and enhancing solutions to continually improve the user experience
Management and Competencies
Deep understanding of search and related topics (content architecture, indexing, query optimization, metadata, tagging, ontology, facets, text analysis, natural language processing, machine learning, etc) Experienced manager able to define work tasks, set priorities, ensure proper utilization, monitor and report on progress Capable of forward thinking and of moving strategic plans into action Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and communicate technical information to IT Leadership, the business, developers and support staff International experience with the ability to work in a diverse work environment across cultures and time-zones; available to travel (internationally) at short notice and host/attend international calls outside of standard working hours
Minimum fifteen years' experience managing and designing enterprise solutions Eight years focused on architecting/implementing/managing enterprise search solutions in complex global environments Strong experience as primary technical leader on successful large application deployments with the ability to manage resources and multiple projects simultaneously Experience managing teams (2-5 people) In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft platform (Azure, IIS, .NET, Web Services, SQL Server, SharePoint, Windows Server, Clustering, Active Directory etc) In-depth knowledge of Search platforms (Autonomy/Verity, Microsoft/Sharepoint/Fast, X1, Coveo, Elasticsearch, etc) In depth knowledge of Ontology/Taxonomy/Metadata tools Knowledge of application, database/content, system, and network design Knowledge of Data and Analytics solutions Hadoop/Spark, Machine Learning, visualization tools such as Qlik/Power-BI a plus.
Experience configuring and delivery of third party products (e.g. workflow and orchestration engines, Practice Management Systems, Portals, Document Management Systems etc) a plus.
Confidence in dealing with staff, managers and partners across the firm Good knowledge of regional issues and structures, ability to work with people from many different cultural backgrounds
Bachelor's degree or higher (Masters preferred) from an accredited college/university in Computer Science or related field
