JOB GOAL: To provide overall strategic direction, management, and tactical implementation of existing and proposed information systems district-wide while aggressively advancing the district s use of technology to improve teaching and learning. The role is closely aligned with coordinated responsibilities originating via the Director of Curriculum. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide the technological infrastructure, appropriate technology tools, professional development, and end user support to enable students, teachers, administrators, and support staff members to use technology effectively in teaching, learning, and management of the school affairs.2. Work directly with teachers to enhance student learning through the implementation and appropriate use of technology and instructional resources in classrooms.3. Work collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum, or his or her designee, to support and utilize information technology to enhance the district s capacity to use data for decision making in both instructional and non-instructional settings.4. Employ communication technology, including the district s web presence, to strengthen the effectiveness of the district s internal and external communications. 5. Support the district s efforts in maintaining and submitting required student and staff data to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (SIMS, EPIMS, SCS, SSDR, etc). 6. Provide oversight for the in house technical support for the student information system end users. 7. Develop, update, and submit the district s technology plan for annual approval by the DESE.8. Direct and oversee the district s adherence to all applicable copyright and software licensing laws, regulations, and contracts between the district and its vendors.9. Conduct evidence gathering within the district s information infrastructure in cases involving student or staff infractions which may warrant disciplinary action by district administrators, referral to authorities for criminal investigation, or compliance with right-to-know informational requests or subpoenas received by the district.10. Consult on the quality of the technology curriculum and work with the staff as a resource person in the assessment and development of instructional programs and curriculums.11. Assist in the identification, development, and assessment of programs to provide students with the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a 21st century economy.12. Perform and assist other school administrators conducting annual performance evaluation of instructional and non-instructional support staff members.13. Participate in the design and implementation of orientation programs for recently hired staff members as well as mentoring programs for both recently hired and experienced staff members.14. Assist instructional staff members with planning and implementation of classroom instruction involving the integration of technology via one-on-one mentoring, online support, and conducting group professional development activities. Assist support staff members with utilization of equipment and software for the efficient operations of offices via staff meetings, on-on-one mentoring, e-mail, and online support, technology help desk support, and professional development activities. 15. Supervise the technical operations of the district s computer hardware, cabled and wireless local area networks, connections to wide area networks, internet access, distance learning capabilities and design and implementation of future technology application systems. 16. Direct and oversee the planning for both wired and wireless network capacity, maintenance, data backup and storage, management of user accounts and access levels, technical documentation, troubleshooting, security, and virus prevention.17. Select and procure technology hardware software, and peripherals necessary for implementing district level technology projects; approve all technology related purchases system-wide.18. Assist in identifying and satisfying the technological needs of the district s instructional programs conducted outside the traditional school day. 19. Work with other school administrators to prepare a responsible district technology budget that ties to district curriculum initiatives. 20. Seek alternate funding sources for technology through grants, E-Rate reimbursement applications, and community support; assist in the design of grants for any state and federal or other technology money when it becomes available.21. Communicate with the internal and external community through workshops, school committee meetings, and other methods to keep the public informed of technological changes and potential threats to our society and in our school district. 22. Design and deliver technology related professional development and training for instructional staff, students, non-instructional staff, and district administrators; coordinate all technology related professional development and training for the district.23. Supervise, coordinate duties, and assess performance of Computer Support Technicians in providing technical assistance for equipment and operations. 24. Assist in the preparation for presentations of special assignments (i.e. budgetary planning, school-to-work, time and learning commission, periodic conference presentations, etc) as directed by the Superintendent and/or his or her designee.25. Complete additional assignments as requested by the Superintendent and/or his or her designee.
