The K-3 Language and Literacy Enrichment Activity Instructor/Grant Project Leader will support group instruction of K-3 rd grade afterschool program participants, emphasizing language development and literacy. Work in close collaboration with Activity Instructor for K-3 Language and Literacy Enrichment, education director, education specialist, group leaders and program director. Reports to: Program Director, CS 300 Location: CS 300, 2050 Prospect Ave., Bronx, NY 10457 Hours: 18 hours per week, Non-Exempt Major Duties: Work collaboratively with activity instructor and group leaders to design, plan and co-facilitate activities (for groups of participants with mixed-abilities) with an emphasis on language and literacy enrichment. Work with activity instructor to design, plan and facilitate language and literacy-enhancing activities for small groups of high-needs students (ELLs and students with language-based learning differences). Work closely with and be mentored by activity instructor for K-3 language and literacy enrichment. Learn and model strategies that enhance language and literacy development, especially for ELLs and students with language-based learning differences. Coach co-facilitators (group leaders, program aides) in strategies that enhance language and literacy development. Co-develop and co-facilitate short hands-on trainings for group leaders and program aides on language and literacy development in young children. Collaborate with group leaders in the development of unit and lesson/activity plans that include practices that promote language and literacy development. Participate in set up, facilitation and clean up after activities. Help to organize and store supplies/ equipment. Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities. Meet with activity specialist, at minimum, on a weekly basis. Meet with on-site education specialist on a weekly basis. Attend professional development/training sessions as specified. Attend and participate in staff meetings, when requested. Function as a member of Good Shepherd Services teams. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Associate s or Bachelor s Degree in early childhood and/or elementary education (B.S./M.S. in TESOL and/or Sp. Ed. preferred) Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
